The view in the morning...
We hiked on Danco Island, one of the many tiny islands along the peninsula. Lots of penguins. I got a few okay pictures of penguins. My iPhone does not have 3 lenses, so anything a bit too far is just a tiny spec, and zooming in just gets me very pixelated penguins. So here are the few okay pictures and one video from Danco island.
Brave penguin hanging out by a predator. The predator goes after eggs and small chicks, but the adults were still quite cautious approaching the predator. This one adult did decide to walk by.
A view of a glacier as we were leaving Danco Island.
The afternoon trip was initially planned to be a hike on the peninsula proper. However, too many molting penguins were at the shore where our intended hike was. So that we could set foot on Antarctica itself, we were allowed to disembark on a different part of the shore for 10 minutes, and then the rest of the outing would be cruising around on the Zodiac. When we were on the shore, we could hear whales, and then when we were cruising in the Zodiac, we saw LOTS of whales. The video was taken on shore, but the point of the video is *not* the penguins, it's the sound. Turn up the volume. You will hear whales. One whale got very close to our Zodiac. The rest of the whale sightings were much farther away, and all of my pictures were total fails. Enjoy the one shot I got.
Love the videos thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteSo cool! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat morning view is exquisite. And the pictures that passed muster are really enjoyable - thanks! And what an experience, to be standing on the ground and hearing a whale that close.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! You have done well even without a fancy camera. And I heard the whale loud and clear!
ReplyDeleteThat last comment was from Chris P., who is not tech savvy with names on strange blogs!
