I am back home and catching up on the blog. I have lots of pictures to go through, so I will continue to post. I am happy to report that the camera store graciously exchanged my camera for a new one.
Day 3 on the ice took us to Paradise Bay and Cuverville Island.
Good morning, seal!

Cuverville Island
Warning! Cuteness overload approaching! There were a number of gentoo chicks on Cuverville Island. Chicks are born with a down coat which is not waterproof. They eventually molt their down and get feathers. The last feathers to grow in are the tail feathers. So penguins that seem to be missing their tail are juveniles. The chick at the bottom splatted on the rock I named "Meatloaf".
Here's an attempt at feeding happening just behind Meatloaf.
Another cute chick.
So cute!
ReplyDeleteWow cuteness overload! What an amazing trip, and how wild the environs! So glad your camera got replaced too - frustrating to have it malfunction on a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Thx for sharing the sights & sounds.
